For highway networks to be efficient, sustainable and safe; a proper geometric design is crucial. The present study provides a summary of the numerous variables such as horizontal radius, super elevation, K-value, visibility and traffic volume projection that must be taken into account while executing the geometric design process of any highway. The study offers a thorough examination of features of AutoCAD Civil 3D software and a hands-on demonstration of how to utilize the features of this software for precise and accurate design of road layouts. It highlights the advantages of utilizing Civil 3D, such as cutting down on design time and mistakes, enhancing precision and productivity and allowing for real-time project updates. This study also includes case studies and scholarly research on the impact of geometric design elements, such as operating speed, median openings and horizontal curvatures on road safety. In the current research enhancement of ring road (State highway no 205) in the State of Maharashtra using Civil 3D software is carried out which includes construction of 2 lane with paved shoulders. The results of this research emphasize the importance of taking measures to design road infrastructure geometrically in order to ensure safety and efficiency. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of geometric design for road infrastructure and the precise and effective road alignments that can be made with AutoCAD Civil 3D. The study makes suggestions for further advancement in the area of geometric design by monitoring the roadway for its performance in future and comparing the performance with that of traditional design approach, which will be beneficial to improve road infrastructure around the world in coming decades.
