The construction sector plays an important role in economic, environmental, and social development. To ensure sustainability, building designs must be crafted with careful consideration. Rail transport infrastructure is particularly important for a sustainable society, and bridges are a crucial part of such structures. Their construction and maintenance are essential for maintaining reliable transport between different places. When choosing a bridge design, economic factors are usually the main focus. But for a sound decision, environmental and social considerations need to be taken into account, and their influence must be evaluated throughout the bridge’s lifespan. The environmental and economic life cycle assessment (LCA) methods are advanced, but the assessment of social aspects is still in its early stages, which restricts the use of multidimensional sustainability assessment methods. Further, study’s objective is to put forward a method to analyse the life-cycle sustainability of bridges at high altitudes (i.e. Himalayan Region of Jammu & Kashmir, India) and their impact on 3 (Three) dimensional aspects of sustainability viz. economy, environment, and society. The present study intends to provide a detailed literature review to guide the sustainable design for concrete structures and other infrastructural. It is anticipated that the result of the study will recommend the concerns to identify and choose the most sustainable LCA proposal resulting to minimize impacts on environments.
