This chapter critically examines Abdullah Öcalan’s evolving stance on Kurdish language rights, highlighting a shift from early advocacy for state-supported diversity to a later neoliberal approach that relegates the preservation of the Kurdish language to civil society and market forces. It critiques Öcalan’s reluctance to demand linguistic equality or challenge Turkey’s hierarchical system, arguing that his more recent positions align with Turkish state policy and risk accelerating assimilation and cultural erosion. Through this analysis, the chapter underscores the implications of Öcalan’s discourse for Kurdish identity and linguistic survival.
