The Shift to Planetary Health in the Twenty-First Century
摘要
This chapter examines the emergence, definition, and scope of the planetary health perspective and further explores the role of the environment in health and health equity. The chapter examines the scientific effort to eliminate disease and why it is so difficult to achieve. It also assesses the health of animals, plants, and their shared environments. Contemporary discussions of the safe environmental limits within which humanity can flourish are reviewed. Of special concern in the chapter are Indigenous voices commenting on the planetary health approach and the integration of indigenous perspectives in the shaping of what is here labeled Planetary Health 2.0. Planetary Health, in its revised, collaborative expression, it is argued, represents a critical advance in our collective understanding and participatory response to the issue of health in its full meaning.
