Meteorism and Belching

Bloating can be defined as a subjective sensation of excessive gas in the intestine. The main symptoms include abdominal pain, excessive flatulence, and belching. In general, bloating and belching are very common gastrointestinal symptoms in the population. Their etiology is very variable, related to different gastrointestinal pathologies, state of the microbiota, or diet rich in certain foods such as vegetables, legumes, or starchy foods. They present different clinical manifestations such as abdominal pain, bloating, discomfort, or a feeling of fullness when eating. Conventional treatment usually consists of a change in eating habits or different physiotherapy treatments including physical exercise, abdominal massage, and bowel mobilization exercises.
