Gastroparesis
摘要
Gastroparesis, also known as “delayed gastric emptying,” is a pathology or chronic disorder that consists of the delay or stoppage of the movement of ingested food from the stomach to the small intestine, revealing the existence of gastric dysmotility. This disorder is usually idiopathic or related to other pathologies such as diabetes mellitus. Other risk factors include surgical interventions, Parkinson’s disease, drugs (such as opioids), and intestinal ischemia, among others. The symptoms of this disorder are nonspecific, as they may mimic other structural disorders, but the most common are postprandial nausea and vomiting, pain, malaise, dehydration, and malnutrition. Diagnosis is made by imaging and laboratory tests and may even be made by endoscopy or functional tests. Nutritional and pharmacological treatment is usually carried out, although there are other more complex methods such as transcutaneous gastric stimulation or gastric electrostimulation.
