Functional Dyspepsia and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
摘要
Functional dyspepsia is a digestive disorder that causes discomfort or pain in the upper abdomen without an identifiable organic cause. GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) is a disorder in which the acidic contents of the stomach back up into the esophagus, causing symptoms such as heartburn, regurgitation, and, in some cases, damage to the lining of the esophagus. The etiology of dyspepsia is variable and can be organic or inorganic; as for GERD, it is usually multifactorial, highlighting a disorder of the lower esophageal sphincter. Both present intermittent manifestations, affecting the quality of life of patients and worsening in different circumstances. Their treatment ranges from surgical options to lifestyle changes and pharmacological and physiotherapeutic treatments.
