This chapter explores Australians’ attitudes towards image-based sexual abuse and how these attitudes may then shape or impact bystanders’ intentions, readiness, and capacity to intervene when witnessing image-based sexual abuse behaviours. In doing so, we explore differences in survey participants’ attitudes, with a specific focus on gender and sexuality. This chapter also focuses on the concept of victim-blaming, including how focus group participants assigned blame and responsibility to aspects of the victim-survivors’ behaviour and actions. We unpack nuances of the scenarios presented to participants, including how varying the victim-survivor and perpetrator gender in the scenarios presented to participants played a role in influencing how they attributed blame and harm.
