This chapter summarises the volume’s engagement with contemporary debates in norm contestation theory and how the chapters speak to the effects of contestation on international norm dynamics. Not only does it survey the range of alternative forms of contestation offered in the chapters, but it also illustrates how types of contestation in different issue areas affect norms that are interlinked in articulated networks. By integrating various typologies of norm contestation and analyses of norm robustness and norm cluster resiliency, we gain a broader understanding of both the state of IR theories of norm development and pathways for the advancement of scholarly understanding of ‘contestation in prism’ in a complex world.
