Derby Diffracted
摘要
This chapter shifts from a focus on the AFLW to a dual focus on roller derby and AFL as a way of articulating a sport politics of gender difference. Using the Deleuzian concept of desiring-machines, we extrapolate the various lines pursued by each sport organization as it works with the tensions between expansion and contraction. This chapter thus starts to articulate a feminist future for sport organizations: what this means and what it might do. Drawing on fragments of data from interviews, online sources and fieldwork over the course of the project, we trouble notions of linearity in exploring roller derby as an apparatus of change in sport—that is the ways roller derby can help us to see and do sport differently in the future.
