This chapter is a netnographic study of an exclusive online group committed to exploring and preserving the Khasi identity in Meghalaya. The research employs an exploratory approach to unveil the intricate dimensions of social life and culture within these digital communes. The study conceptualises online spaces as digital ghettos, highlighting conflicts as pivotal catalysts for group unity to address broader societal tensions, specifically focusing on gender dynamics within the matrilineal culture of Meghalaya. The digital commune emerges as a dynamic space where fears and dominance from socioeconomic forces are actively contested, negotiated and navigated. Conflicts within the online community are perceived as perpetual glue agents. The study reveals a nuanced understanding of conflicts as both constructive and resistant forces. This chapter aims to contribute to the literature on digital communities, providing insights into the construction, reinforcement and contestation of cultural identity in the digital age. It also underscores the significance of gender dynamics within the matrilineal context of Meghalaya, highlighting the intersectionality of gender identity with that of ethnic identity. The study provides rich insights into the ongoing negotiations of indigenous identities within the context of globalising forces.
