In this chapter, we explore the theoretical foundations of EX through its relationship to other organizational behavior concepts. The chapter provides insights into the role of the psychological contract as the cornerstone of EX. We also review the current definitions of EX and their various perspectives and argue that there is a need for a revised, more holistic definition of the construct, one that incorporates the diverse aspects of the field.
