The application of Artificial Intelligence has been growing rapidly, and is now seen in many aspects of our daily lives. Mechatronic systems are becoming more and more intelligent by using AI in different ways. This chapter looks at some of the ways in which AI is being applied in Mechatronics and provides a case study on the application of AI in the operation of lower-limb Assistive Robotic Exoskeletons. For these systems to function properly, user intent recognition is crucial. One way to achieve this is to accurately analyse captured gait data by using AI. The chapter focusses on how different AI algorithms can be used for this purpose.
