This paper explores the future of English Language Teaching (ELT) in Korea, emphasizing the need for innovation beyond government-led initiatives. While the Korean government has introduced various programs to enhance English education, many have proven unsustainable due to frequent policy changes and inadequate preparation. In response, grassroots, field-driven innovations are emerging, as exemplified by 13 chapters discussing diverse approaches such as AI-driven learning, localized critical literacy, and autonomous student learning. The authors call for stronger collaboration between researchers and teachers, the adoption of innovative research methods, and the development of localized models to create effective and sustainable ELT practices in Korea.
