Networked digital media is the latest in many scapegoats for what ails young people. Be it radio, television, or the internet, older generations attribute emerging technologies to damaging the physical, behavioral, and mental health of teens and adolescents. With this backdrop, the author outlines the premise of this book—that young creators have become adept at assembling and utilizing Digital Visual Learning Networks, which constitute human relationships and non-human material to support their art-making. He also covers the contextual, theoretical, and methodological foundations of the study, the results of which constitute this book. Global themes from the three-year study are shared along with an outline of the book’s structure.
