The article will cover a journey of a university course through various turns in learning as well as outside factors influencing education (such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the advent of AI tools). The course started out as a traditional lecture/seminar based one in 2001; went ‘e’ riding the wave of Open Educational Resources around 2010 and later got an English-language variant; went through the university merger in 2017, later the COVID-19 pandemic, and finally had to adjust to generative artificial intelligence and large language models. We will especially focus on the impact of the latter two transformations, the COVID-19, and the arrival of generative AI. For us, the seemingly more ‘old-fashioned’ asynchronous course model allowed us to continue with only minor changes. At the same time, the advent of generative AI forced us to adapt the course more substantially – as this is still an ongoing process, we hope to return to the matter in the future.
