The first researchers of goitered gazelle biology in the Soviet Union collected extensive material on the morphology and ecology of this species, but this information is almost not available to English-speaking researchers, as it is published in Russian. Therefore, I have translated most of the important information into English and collected it in this chapter. As for the genetics and taxonomy of gazelles, it is available in a number of papers in English. However, the subspecific taxonomy of gazelles is rather superficially developed and raises many questions, so I have devoted special attention to discussing this issue in the taxonomy section (1.2 Taxonomy and Genetics) and use in this book the previous view on the subspecies taxonomy of this species.
