The maxillary sinus is the largest of the paranasal sinuses, with an approximate volume of 15 × 3 cm. The development is fully complete by the age of 12–14 years old. It is the most significant part of the maxillary bone, and it communicates with the lateral nasal wall through the semilunar hiatus opening. Three different branches of the maxillary artery provide the main blood supply of the sinus, whereas the innervation of the sinus is via the branches of the maxillary (V2) nerve. Due to its mid-face position, the pyramidal air-shaped cavity has many boundaries. Superiorly, the sinus is bordered by the orbit, whereas medially, it is bordered by the lateral wall of the nose and, laterally, the zygoma. Furthermore, the infratemporal fossa forms the posterior border of the maxillary sinus; meanwhile, the pterygopalatine fossa makes up the posteromedial limit.
