The SEIR model of epidemic spread includes an additional class of individuals (the class of exposed individuals) in comparison to the SIR model of epidemics spread. This additional class influences the characteristics of the epidemic wave described by the model. We discuss this influence by a comparison of the exact solutions for the epidemic waves in the SIR and SEIR model obtained by the Simple Equations Method for solving nonlinear differential equations.
