In this chapter, I explore the need to better understand and optimise a practicable human rights-based approach to the care, treatment, and discharge of forensic patients. Patients in secure and forensic services are potentially the most marginalised and extensively stigmatised of all patient cohorts. I will, therefore, consider the concept of right-based practice in secure and forensic mental health settings, and how praxis can be more clearly delineated and strengthened. Specifically, investigate how the concepts of epistemic, procedural, and occupational justice align and interlink with human rights, and can help create a better understanding of how to deploy rights-based practice.
