Cycles of Crises: The Current Condition of the Democratic Public Sphere
摘要
This essay adopts Blumler’s systems outlook to review if something is systematically amiss in our conduct of political communication. We examine the challenges to the survival of independent journalism, the crisis of misinformation and how growing political alienation has led to a perilous state of polarization in many Western democracies. We conclude that as the culture wars we are currently witnessing continue to exploit our discontents, we will need to formulate a politics that is capable of healing them.
