In this chapter we briefly review the theoretical framework of quantum mechanics. In particular, the reader can find the postulates of quantum mechanics and the description of the measurement through the positive operator-valued measures (POVMs). We also introduce the density operator describing the system highlighting the difference between pure and mixed states. The concept of entanglement is also mentioned and quantified through the entropy of the entanglement and the concurrence for two-qubit systems.
