The global demand for electrical energy and fossil fuel is increasing day by day. While demand is increasing, fossil fuel reserves decrease, and the cost of electrical energy production increases. The world may have to face a severe energy crisis in the future. As energy demands around the world increase, the need for renewable energy sources (RESs) that will not harm the environment increases. Some projections indicate that the global energy demand will almost triple by 2050. There are many kinds of RESs such as solar, biomass, wind, and geothermal energy. Wind energy is the most growing technology among renewable sources. A single wind turbine (WT) is capable of generating power in the range of a few MWs at present and shortly a rated power of 10–20 MW may be reached. Enhanced diversity in energy supply markets and strengthened energy security enable a major contribution of wind energy to reduce global atmospheric emissions. Thus, wind energy has attracted great attention and can be considered the most promising power technology to generate electricity that will have the actual potential to be integrated with the electrical grid and satisfy the load dilemma to some degree. So, this chapter deals with wind energy situation in Egypt and grid-connected wind turbine systems also discusses problem formulation and main objectives of book.
