In India, police forces need to be well-equipped in terms of personnel, weaponry, forensics, communication, and transport support and the purpose is to perform their role well. The most important feature of the administration of criminal justice must be the prevention and detention of crimes and the apprehension of criminals for which every government requires an efficient police system. A major step in streamlining police organizations was the enactment of the Police Act, of 1861. The independence of India in 1947 marks a major turning point in the history of its police system and administration, and it marks the transition of Indian police from a colonial heritage to a democratic character. The most challenging responsibility of the police and police system is for the maintenance of order, rule of law, security of the people, safety of the national interests, prevention of offences, and investigation of crimes purely on the police.
