Future Outlook

To consider the future of the split-HopkinsonHopkinson bar, it is useful to start with the past. Essentially, the HopkinsonHopkinson bar acts as a waveguide, propagating a stress waveStress wave from an impact to a specimen, and from the specimen to appropriate instrumentation. So, there are four aspects that must be considered: generating the stress, propagating the wave, designing the specimen (and attachments etc.), and performing measurements (i.e. instrumentation).
