Impressions of landscapes not only include visual phenomena, but are also shaped by non-visual sensory stimuli. In particular, acoustic and olfactory sensations have been increasingly incorporated into landscape research since the 1960s. This article briefly summarizes developments in the acoustic and olfactory spatial dimension and particularly emphasizes approaches to their methodological recording and cartographic representation.
