The perspective of governmentality allows for the analysis of landscapes, identities, problem descriptions, political objectives, institutionalized practices, as well as the diverse ways of influencing actions and personality development in their mutual dependence and historical contingency. Governmentality research can become the starting point for social critique and support the self-reflection of planners, politicians, civil society actors, and other landscape-related individuals.
