The term socialization describes the introduction of the individual into the world of interpretations, evaluations, norms, values, and societal role expectations. If landscape is understood as an individual construction that is ‘perceived within’ physical spaces based on societal conventions, and not as an ‘objectively existing’ physical object, the question of the intercession and internalization of societal interpretation and evaluation patterns moves into the center of scientific interest. The socialization of landscape cannot be understood as a continuous process, but rather takes place in phases in which different emotional, functional, aesthetic, and cognitive references are established.
