The article reconstructs some primary and secondary paths of the philosophical considerations and typical discussions of the modern, especially aesthetic, concept of landscape. It shows that this philosophical concept of ‘landscape’ has predominantly been equated with ‘nature’ and ‘natural beauty’ to this day. Currently, developments are emerging to include questions of nature conservation, ecology, urban landscape, and landscape design. In addition to the social sciences, which now surpass philosophy in explanatory and interpretive competence regarding ‘landscape’, philosophy could provide more developed contemporary or reformulated categories for the social sciences.

摘要
