A landscape hermeneutics investigates how certain landscapes have meaning for us. According to hermeneutics, we live in a world that has always been interpreted. The meanings and interpretations of our world are not secondary additions to an otherwise ‘objective’ reality, but form the actual fabric of the world that matters to us. This contribution shows how, in a particular interpretation of a landscape, the objective reading of certain landscape elements and the more personal reading of a landscape are inevitably intertwined.

摘要

A landscape hermeneutics investigates how certain landscapes have meaning for us. According to hermeneutics, we live in a world that has always been interpreted. The meanings and interpretations of our world are not secondary additions to an otherwise ‘objective’ reality, but form the actual fabric of the world that matters to us. This contribution shows how, in a particular interpretation of a landscape, the objective reading of certain landscape elements and the more personal reading of a landscape are inevitably intertwined.
