‘Landscape’ is en vogue—in everyday life, in politics, planning, and research. It is virtually omnipresent, but perhaps for this reason it is sometimes difficult to grasp being vague and undefined or multidimensional and multi-conceptual. The aim of this handbook is to bring some systematics into the ‘landscape thicket’ by presenting theories, disciplinary approaches, conceptions, perspectives, methods, and current research fields. The introductory overview outlines the central contents and approaches of our handbook.
