The Conicet Foundation and Its Impact on Geological Sciences
摘要
The creation of a Scientific and Technical Research Council in 1958 allowed the development of exclusive research both in universities and in different institutions. After the first few years when leading figures of our geology such as Félix González Bonorino supported its development together with its first founder and president, Dr. Bernardo Houssay, there were periods full of diverse vicissitudes due to the different military governments. With the arrival of democracy, the institution was consolidated and became the promoter and supporter of the advancement of geology in its various orientations. The creation of regional research centers allowed studies and teaching to be carried out outside the major metropolitan areas. The formation of institutes where geology was developed from Tierra del Fuego and Patagonia to every corner of the country produced sustained progress in the geological knowledge of the different regions. The creation of scholarships spread throughout the country strengthened the learning and training of new geologists in different universities. The existence of a full-time research career allowed for the sustained development of vocations along with the possibility of undertaking postgraduate studies overseas. This academic policy made it possible to reinforce the vacant areas in the different disciplines and to strengthen geological research in different parts of the country.
