The Foundation of the Argentine Geological Society
摘要
The creation of the Argentine Geological Society was one of the main events of the mid-twentieth century for the community. The foundation of the society allowed the members to gather with a common goal, to have a press medium where to publish the geological contributions and paleontological findings of our country and neighboring regions. It was founded in 1945 under the direction of Carlos Storni and a group of young enthusiast geologists in the Aula Aguirre of the School of Geology of the University of Buenos Aires. It was established during the first years in the historic Manzana de las Luces where the University of Buenos Aires had been founded in 1821, and then with the effort of the members the House of the Geologist was bought, which is the current headquarters of the Geological Association. Throughout these almost eighty years it has uninterruptedly edited the Journal of the Geological Association, has organized the Argentine Geological Congresses, has published numerous texts for the study of different disciplines, and has maintained a series of books edited at each congress that present the geology of the region where it is held. This activity is shared with updated courses and social events held at the House of the Geologist.
