Geology During the Five-Year Plan
摘要
The five-year plan of the Peronist government focused on geological aspects in the Bernardino Rivadavia Museum, where the Natural Sciences Research Institute was created. Agustín Riggi was its director from 1946 to 1955, a period when, through a generous budget, he set up 29 laboratories in the museum. These were years in which classic books on the inventory of mineral resources of Argentina were published, such as Metalliferous Deposits by Angelelli and Solid Mineral Fuels by Borrello. Textbooks on different aspects of geology were edited, such as the Sedimentological Lexicon and Mineral Optics, together with Eruptive Rocks under the Microscope, with the participation of Mario Teruggi and Félix González Bonorino, which were widely used by several generations. Other aspects were not neglected, such as Argentine Antarctica, its Geography and its Geology by Agustín Riggi, and Borrello's book on the Geology of the Malvinas Islands. During those years, Mario Teruggi stood out at the Institute, providing his experience in both sedimentary and igneous petrography in the training of his disciples. Esteban Boltovskoy one of our greatest specialists in current and past foraminifera, joined the Institute as a researcher in 1950, carrying out important scientific work for decades. Regional Geology was supported by the publication of Pablo Groeber's great work on The High Andes Mountains.
