The first and last attempt to write a history of Argentine Geology was made by Franco Pastore in 1925. Subsequently, there were only brief syntheses or partial attempts on specific aspects such as the History of Mineralogy, Petroleum Geology, or in-depth regional historical studies. These regional studies were carried out on the occasion of the National Geology Congresses, which allowed the history of the host province of the meeting to be reconstructed, covering a large part of the national territory. Despite the large quantity and quality of the historical works carried out, we lack a work that would cover more comprehensively the History of Geological Sciences of Argentina. We hope this work will fulfill these objectives 100 years after Pastore’s first pioneering attempt. We take this opportunity to acknowledge all those who have contributed with their studies to the purpose of reconstructing our geological history.
