The rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) has not only transformed our interactions with the environment but also elevated privacy concerns. Despite recognizing the importance of user privacy, current development methodologies lack comprehensive approaches to integrate privacy concerns throughout the entire development lifecycle. This paper underscores the need for a fundamental shift to seamlessly embed privacy within the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) of IoT applications. It further emphasizes the enhancement of software development models to support privacy and aid developers in its implementation. We advocate the adoption of Privacy by Design (PbD) principles, urging privacy to be a fundamental concern from the outset of a project rather than an afterthought. Therefore, user privacy should be prioritized throughout the entire development journey, from initial design to final deployment. Our study also highlights the critical need for resilient privacy frameworks that can adapt to the rapidly evolving IoT technology landscape. Only through collective efforts and steadfast commitment to PbD principles can the full potential of IoT be realized while simultaneously safeguarding user privacy in our increasingly interconnected world.
