This chapter provides an overview of the representations of families in Anglophone drama and fiction. It delineates how family constellations can be used in order to address social, political, economic or ecological issues, e.g. in family plays which reflect the repercussions of climate change. In addition, the chapter takes into account changes in the notion of ‘family’ (from traditional families to modern nuclear and to postnuclear or patchwork families), the functions of ‘family’ in a specific social framework and changes in the literary depiction of family.
