In this chapter, I discuss the construction of a hybrid identity in Jackie Kay’s memoir Red Dust Road. After a depiction of the wide range of family concepts which result from Jackie Kay’s experience as an adopted child with a bicultural background, I investigate the wealth of religious and social ritual practices that she encounters while tracing her birth parents. Finally, I present the therapeutic potential inherent in some of these rituals and how Jackie Kay enriches them with her own scriptotherapeutic commitment.
