This chapter investigates Noah Haidle’s drama Mr Marmalade, starting with a close look at its depiction of a dysfunctional family constellation. It then moves on to an analysis of the play’s therapeutic dimension, with Lucy’s role-playing and her invention of imaginary companions as a central aspect. In its final part, I discuss the analogy between play and ritual as an important factor in the play’s internal communication system, but also in its reception perspective.
