Using the funeral rites for Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 as a starting point, this chapter outlines the triadic constellation between ritual, family and therapy which informs this study. It presents the design of the book’s theoretical framework and introduces the nine literary texts (from Canada, the US and the UK) which are analysed in the course of this project.
