When Ellen Terry writes her reminiscences her work should be of exceeding interest. She is so supreme an artist that whatever she may say must have, unconsciously as well as consciously, a bearing on her art. Not merely on the history of it during the fifty years of her own experience of it and part in it, not merely of the few great and the many interesting personalities with whom she has been brought into familiar contact, but of those soundings and experiments and intentions and workings by which great artistic results are achieved.
