Edwin Abbey has a right to be an adviser on the life-help for students. He has exercised considerable influence on the life and work of young artists both as a “visitor” at the Royal Academy School and in his own studio. He has often in big works, such as those for the Pennsylvania State Capitol, had the assistance of young painters still in their novitiate. He carefully selects from the Academy schools the recipients of such opportunity as his studio affords, and that his studio affords large opportunity is shown by the fact that four of these students have already had their work purchased for public galleries.
