Based on the so-called four-component model of (Geo-)Information Systems, the chain of processing geodata or geoinformation is divided into the components input (also: acquisition), manipulation (also: management), analysis, and presentation (IMAP modelIMAP model; Fig. 5.1). In this chapter, the focus is on acquisition, and in the following two chapters on management and analysis.
