This chapter discusses the impact of systemic cancers on the ophthalmic tissues. This impact may be direct, resulting from metastasis of solid tumors to the eye or infiltration of the eye and surrounding tissues by malignant cells in the case of hematopoietic cancers. The eye could be indirectly affected by an autoimmune reaction in systemic cancers such as graft versus host disease and paraneoplastic syndromes. The immunocompromised state of the systemic cancer patient may predispose the eye to develop specific eye tumors and opportunistic infections. Treatment of head and neck cancers with radiotherapy may cause ocular side effects, and the systemic medical therapy of cancers may produce ocular toxicities, which will be elucidated in this chapter.
