In recent decades, advancements in science and technology, along with rising healthcare costs and the integration of industrial logistics models, have transformed healthcare delivery. The logistics function has increasingly become a strategic element in hospital management. Hospital administrators have introduced various lean management tools and methods, which have enabled a continuous improvement approach. By reviewing the various logistics models in hospitals across different countries and their impact on pharmacy operating activities, this study discuss how these institutions have enhanced their logistics and pharmacy operations to improve patient outcomes and health care management. This study discusses the potential role of various logistics strategies such as Just-in-Time (JIT), Just-in-Case (JIC), Direct Dispensing (DD), and centralized supply chain management (SCM), in hospitals for better inventory management, errors reduction, quality improvement, and other pharmacy activities. The study also highlights the key role of logistics in ensuring that medical supplies and medications are available when needed, especially during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Lastly, this study indicates the need for healthcare systems to adopt more flexible and innovative logistics approaches that involve computerized logistics systems, Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRMs) and pharmacists directly in logistics processes to create a strong healthcare system capable of responding effectively and timely to both routine operations and emergencies.
