Soil Types—Properties and Distribution

This chapter describes the most distributed soil types in Montenegro from Autogenic and Hydrogenic SoilHydrogenic soil Orders. It starts with the explanation of soils from the class of Weakly Developed Soils: LithosolsLithosol, RegosolsRegosol, ArenosolsArenosols, and ColluvialColluvial process SoilsColluvial soil, which cover a smaller portion of Montenegrin territory. After that, it gives a deeper insight into the Class of Humus-Accumulative Soils, which are the most distributed soils in Montenegro. The focus is on RankerRanker Soils, Rendzina SoilsRendzina, and CalcomelanosolsCalcomelanosol. Calcomelanosols are the most distributed soils in Montenegro, and therefore, the description of Organogenic, Organo-Mineral, and Brownised soil subtypes is given, as well as the Colluvial Calcomelanosols soil variety. Further, there is the description of soils from the CambicCambic soil Soil Class: EutricEutric and DystricDystric CambisolsDystric Cambisol, CalcocambisolsCalcocambisol, and Terra RossaTerra Rossa Soils, which are the second soil class in Montenegro by means of the territory these soils cover. The soil types of Hydrogenic Soil Order are presented through FluvisolsFluvisol, EugleyEugley soil, Pseudogleys, and HistosolsHistosol. The chapter also deals with the soil types from Anthropogenic Classes of Autogenic Soil Orders: RigosolsRigosol, HortisolsHortisol, DeposolsDeposol, and Recultisols. For each soil type, an explanation is given for the soil name, the description of soil genesis and soil horizon sequence, position in an evolutionary series, tentative WRBWRB classificationClassification, spatial distribution, soil characteristics, and soil management with utilisation. Some examples of soil physical and chemical characteristics are presented in tables, whereas the spatial distribution of soils is shown on the map of Montenegro. This chapter is illustrated with photographs of soil profiles, landscapeLandscape, vegetation, and soil features.
