The external Variscan fold-and-thrust belt extends from south-western England across northern France, Belgium, Northern Germany to Czech Republic and Poland (Fig. 10.1; Catalan et al. in Int J Earth Sci 109:1105–1131, 2020; Franke in Int J Earth Sci 103:1471–1499, 2014; Kröner et al. 2008; Warr 2012). Along most of its length, it is hidden beneath the Permian-Mesozoic cover of the Southern Permian Basin/Central European Basin System (Doornenbal and Stevenson 2010; Golonka and Ford in Palaeogeogr Palaeoclimatol Palaeoecol 161:1–34, 2000; Littke et al. in Dynamics of complex intracontinental basins—the central European basin system. Therefore, recognition of the Variscan deformation front and its structural relationship to the foreland basin strongly depends on the availability and quality of the subsurface information, such as deep wells and geophysical data, mostly seismic reflection surveys.

摘要

Springer, Berlin Heidelberg, 2008). Therefore, recognition of the Variscan deformation front and its structural relationship to the foreland basin strongly depends on the availability and quality of the subsurface information, such as deep wells and geophysical data, mostly seismic reflection surveys.
