Digital twin (DT) technology is a novel form of preventive care that leverages wearable technologies oftentimes with proprietary software. Consequently, there has been a growing commercial interest in DT products, which have varying degrees of scientific substantiation. This new approach to self-management, behavioral medicine, and mitigation of chronic metabolic disease progression fits squarely in the field of lifestyle medicine. The application of DT technology in healthcare is impelled by serial breakthroughs in big data analytics, cloud computing, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things. Several DT commercial products can meet these needs and are in varying phases of development and implementation with different chronic disease targets and levels of evidentiary support.
