The basis for planning the forest resources development can be forest utilization conditions zoning. The purpose of the study is to statistically justify the scheme of typification of forest utilization conditions at the level of the central forest districts of the Russian regions. The study region includes the Republic of Karelia, Murmansk and Arkhangelsk Regions and is divided into 56 central forest districts. We analyzed studies that examined the reasons affecting the efficiency of logging, and on this basis we identified 19 variables describing the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of wood resources, natural-production conditions and the level of road infrastructure. Forest planning documents of the constituent entities (forest plans) and forest management regulations of the respective central forest districts were the data sources. The research methodology consisted of the sequential application of factor, cluster and discriminant analyses. The purpose of applying factor analysis was to eliminate multicollinearity and reduce the number of variables for cluster analysis. Cluster analysis is used to classify central forest districts and draw up a scheme of typification of forest utilization conditions. In order to verify the results of cluster analysis, discriminant analysis was used. Factor analysis showed that four factors can explain the variance of the 19 variables included in the analysis by 83.16%. In the study region 56 central forest districts were divided into 9 zones. The results of the discriminant analysis confirmed the statistical validity of the division of the central forest districts of the study region into 9 zones.
