The purpose of this paper is to offer an introduction to the life and thought of Robert Vischer, against the background of the speculative and existential legacy of his father Friedrich Theodor Vischer; to propose an in-depth exploration of the constellation of Einfühlung first theorized by Robert Vischer in his doctoral thesis Über das optische Formgefühl. Ein Beitrag zur Aesthetik published in 1873; to undertake an exploration of the resonances of empathy in artistic fruition and production as well as in psychology; and to emphasize in the conclusions the visionary value of Robert Vischer’s reflections and the need to value his contribution not only in the aesthetic-artistic but also in the psychological field.
